At what resolution should I save my photos and graphics?

Accepted Answer

Use 300 dpi at final size for photographs, and 1200 dpi for line art and barcodes.

Images taken from websites are usually 72 dpi or 96 dpi and will print soft.

Save images in CMYK. If you can only supply RGB, we will convert it and flag anything that shifts.

How do I get a quote?

The quickest way is to use our online quote request form. It asks for everything we need to price the job accurately, and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

If you need it sooner, please tell us when you send the request and we will do our best to accommodate you.

How long does it take for you to complete my order?

Most jobs are finished 5 to 10 business days after you approve the proof. If you need it sooner, say so with your request and we will tell you what is possible.

Is white considered a printing colour?

Not typically. White is the colour of the paper, so it's treated as the absence of ink. On coloured or clear stock, white ink can be printed where needed.

How should I save my design files?

Send a press-ready PDF (PDF/X-1a) with the fonts embedded and 0.125" bleed on every side.

In printing terms, a proof is a one-off copy of your document after all modifications and printing setup processes have been completed. It is your last and best opportunity to make sure that the print job comes out the way you want. By checking the proof carefully, you help us deliver the job accurately on the first run.

What is the Pantone Matching System?

The Pantone Matching System (PMS) is a colour reproduction standard in which colours across the spectrum are each identified by a unique, independent number. Using PMS allows us to match colours precisely and maintain colour consistency throughout the printing process.

Why do the printed colours look different from the colours on my screen?

In short, printers and monitors produce colours in different ways.

Monitors use the RGB (red, green, blue) colour model, which usually supports a wider spectrum of colours. Printers use the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) colour model, which can reproduce most — but not all — of the colours in the RGB colour model. Depending on the equipment used, CMYK generally matches 85–90% of the colours in the RGB model.

When a colour is selected from the RGB model that is outside the range of the CMYK model, the application chooses what it judges to be the closest match. Programs such as Adobe Photoshop let you choose which colour is substituted; others do not.
